HEALING HORSE REGISTRY INTERNATIONAL™
For over twenty years, therapists and coaches have been incorporating horses in their work with their human clients. It amazing that these gifts the horses
are offering was seeded to so many different individuals at
approximately the same time frame. People who worked and lived in
different areas of North America, and we suspect, on different
continents. We are excited to hear what you are learning from your
horses.
This is a new idea that has the potential to change/improve human awareness.
Hippotherapy has been around since 1993. It involves a horse and a rider. In this modality, “the horse influences the client rather than the client controlling the horse.” It is the body movement of the horse that stimulates healing for clients with movement dysfunction.
In 2001, I read with enthusiasm and wonder, Linda Kohanov’s book, The Tao of Equus, A Woman’s Journey of Healing & Transformation through the Way of the Horse. I was intrigued with the idea that a horse could help facilitate the healing of the human spirit.
In the past few years we have watched on television as horses have been brought in to help autistic children, abused women and these magnificent creatures are offering a healing environment to access the unseen wounds of returning war veterans and others suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
In 2008 I met Melisa Pearce, founder of Touched by a Horse TM. Melisa views the horse not as a tool in her therapeutic work and gestalt coaching, but as an equal partner. As a graduate of Melisa's Equine Gestalt Coaching Method™, I watched horses do what is known as “leaching”, and other horses who were chakra balancers, and still others who so accurately read the energy of the client and assist the client in exploring areas of their life. And then there are those horses that do it all!
In 2012 I completed a comprehensive horse training module with Internationally known Animal Behaviorist, Anna Twinney, founder of Reach Out to HorsesTM. Part of the program was to write a psychology paper, the aim of which was “To observe the language of Equus in its most natural form.” I knew immediately what I intended to write about. Expressions of Horses as Healers, has been appearing in sections on my blog. A link to that page is listed below.
These terms may not be familiar to you, or the same modality might be called something else in your region. As noted earlier, the Healing Horse Registry International is committed to identifying the healing modalities and capabilities of our equine friends and partners and to provide a collective format to record what we are observing.
It is our goal not to restrict our ideas of how horses are showing up to offer healing, to those modalities that we are already aware of. If you have a new idea, we would love to add it to their repertoire. Come explore with us!
